Women of West Michigan Beer Tour — Saturday, June 12, 2021

  • Destination: Guardian Brewing Co., Old Burdick's: Downtown, Tantrick Brewing Co., Three Blondes Brewing Co., Waypost Brewing Co.
  • Duration: 6 hours
  • Price: $69
  • Departs: 06/12/2021

This bus tour is a celebration of women in leadership roles in West Michigan’s craft beer industry and will feature several stops to relatively new breweries.

The tour begins with two different registrations — one in Downtown Kalamazoo and another at the new location for Tantrick Brewing Co. in Allegan. Guests can select the most convenient option. Drink costs are only included at the three stops listed below, but you are welcome to purchase beer at either registration point. The trip first heads to Waypost Brewing Co., tucked back on an old fruit farm, where co-owner and head brewer Hannah Lee produces wonderfully crisp, clean beer across a variety of styles. Each guest will receive full pour of their choice as part of the visit. The trek then visits Saugatuck to see Kim Collins, owner and brewer at Guardian Brewing Co., which opened in early 2019.

Our tour then finishes the afternoon with a stop at Three Blondes Brewing Co. Fronted by sisters Amanda Johnson, Carrie Troyer and Megan Zernicke, this South Haven brewery opened in the summer of 2018. The tour includes a pint or samples at each location, as well as production tours and meet-and-greets with the women behind these emerging breweries. We will also provide complimentary bottles water and snacks on the bus, as well as a large cooler for additional beer purchases during the bus tour.

Tantrick Brewing Co.

Tantrick Brewing Co is owned and operated by Patrick and Tanya Westover. Patrick began brewing at his home in Kalamazoo with a home brew kit he received for Christmas in 2008. He spent the next 10 years refining his self-taught skills, and with a few classes at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, developed a variety of recipes and built his own brewery in his garage. When he met Tanya in 2011, they formed a strong bond over a mutual love for beer and brewing. They married in 2013 and lived in Kalamazoo. With the help of many friends and family members, Tantrick Brewing Co opened in July 2018 in Allegan, MI. Tantrick quickly gained a reputation for quality beer and a clean, friendly atmosphere. In October 2020, Tantrick purchased 2 buildings in Downtown Allegan.

First Stop

Waypost Brewing Co.

Waypost Brewing Co. is founded on the notion that good beer speaks for itself, and the best ones sing. With foot planted in the wine world, we produce beer that are inspired by our farm and reflective of the place where we are. Led by brewer Hannah Lee and Chuck Steinhardt, Waypost opened in the fall of 2018.

Second Stop

Three Blondes Brewing Co.

South Haven natives and sisters Megan Zernicke, Carrie Troyer and Amanda Johnson noticed craft breweries were popping up everywhere, creating cool community gathering places and even revitalizing small neighborhoods and towns. They all wondered, “when is one going to open in South Haven?” This idea turned to research, research led to possibilities and possibilities turned into planning. Throw in a lot of savings, a ton of hometown pride and faith in our community, and a little bit of crazy and suddenly Three Blondes Brewing was in motion. Their parents, Ray and Linda, own and operate VanDerZee Motorplex in town, which is a Kawasaki/Yamaha powersports dealership (and now neighbor to 3BB). For the brewery side, Three Blondes welcomed Jake Demski to our team, the former head brewer at Greenbush Brewing Co.

Guardian is a destination craft brewery that opened in 2018. It has 8 year-round taps and 14 seasonal, one-off, and barreled-aged taps offering a wide variety of styles that range from classic to modern, such as our “Nessie” Imperial IPA with Blue Juniper Berries. Our draft list features 22 craft beers, 2 hard ciders, and 14 wines. We also have cocktails that feature Michigan, regional, and imported liquor options. Our kitchen’s menu focuses on fresh food sourced locally and regionally and as the seasons change, so does our menu. We make most menu items in-house and pride ourselves on serving great meat, vegetarian, and vegan dishes. In 2020, we installed eight 6000 watt heaters under our awning for your outdoor dining comfort.
