Late August and early September is the peak of the hop harvest season. As one of the four main ingredients in craft beer, we’ll be celebrating the hop, or Humulus lupulus, on this bus tour.
Our trip begins with registration at Old Burdick’s Bar and Grill inside the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Downtown Kalamazoo. If you need help with overnight accommodations, we have a discounted room rate available through this link: Radisson Plaza Hotel discount.
Guests are encouraged to order lunch and their favorite IPA prior to departure. The first stop will be to Twisted Hops Farm in Plainwell. The Burkett family operates the 25-acre farm, which features 4.5 acres dedicated to growing Mackinac, Tettnanger, Centennial, Crystal, Fuggle, Triple Pearl, Cashmere, and Mt. Hood. We’ll tour the facility and sample Michigan IPAs.
We’ll then head to Allegan to visit Tantrick Brewing Co. Guests can select any 3 samples or a pint. Allegan also allows people to order to-go drinks and consume them outside in designated areas.
The tour will conclude with a visit to Latitude 42 Brewing Co.’s Oshtemo location for a pint of your choice. Head brewer Scott Freitas specializes in producing a series of exciting IPAs and has been a longtime buyer of Michigan hops.

We use a suite of sustainable farming practices including organic fertilizers and mulch, drip irrigation, white clover ground cover, and integrated pest management throughout the growing season to grow some of the finest Mackinac, Tettnanger, Centennial, Crystal, Fuggle, Triple Pearl, Cashmere, and Mt. Hood hops available in Michigan. No matter how much beer you brew, get ready to make your beer unique. Our locally-grown hops will infuse your beers with amazing aroma and flavor! Arrive: 1:30 p.m. |
Second Stop | ![]() Tantrick Brewing Co.Meet the owners of Tantrick Brewing Co: Tanya and Patrick Westover. We fell in love with beer. Then we fell in love with each other. Then we moved to Allegan, created Tantrick, and fell in love with our community. Patrick began brewing at home in Kalamazoo with a home brew kit he received for Christmas in 2008. He spent the next 10 years refining his self-taught skills, and with a few classes at KVCC, developed a variety of recipes and built his own brewery in his garage. Tanya worked at a retirement home and created a beer club, hosting beer tastings and brewing beer with the residents. With the help of many friends and family members, we rented a space and opened in July 2018 in Allegan, MI. Tantrick quickly gained a reputation for quality beer and a clean, friendly atmosphere. Patrick tirelessly brewed triple batches on his 1 barrel system to keep all the taps full and the beer flowing for the first few months until he installed a 3 barrel system, which he brews on today. Tanya left her career to work at Tantrick full time in October 2018 with a focus on managing the taproom, events and sales. We hired our first part time employee in April 2019. The Covid-19 Pandemic created some unique challenges, and started just as the Tantrick expansion plan was gaining traction. In October 2020, against all odds, Tantrick purchased 2 buildings in Downtown Allegan: 243 Hubbard St for a taproom/ restaurant and 134 Water St for production. Arrive: 3:15 p.m. |
