Downtown Kalamazoo Walking Tours Series

By now, many people know of the explosion of craft beer all over the state and in few cities is this more apparent than the plethora of new options within just a couple miles — in some cases blocks — of each other in downtown Kalamazoo in the last eight months.

Since Oct. 26, four new breweries have opened in downtown Kalamazoo with a fifth — Boatyard Brewing Co. — set to open on June 21. In just few mile radius, Kalamazoo will boast seven breweries, several craft-beer friendly bars, a beer-loving movie theater and several festivals toasting to the growing industry. To celebrate the proliferation of Kalamazoo’s brewing scene, West Michigan Beer Tours will be holding its Walking Tour Series on every Saturday afternoon from June 7 to Aug. 30. We’ll be sampling beers from Gonzo’s BiggDogg Brewing Co., Bell’s Brewery Inc., Arcadia Brewing Co., Olde Peninsula Brewpub, Tibbs Brewing Co. and Rupert’s Brew House.

For just $19, people can try some of the state’s finest beers, meet some of the brewers, learn about the history of Kalamazoo’s beer-making industry from the early 1800s to the present, get tasting tips and perhaps pick up a few surprises along the way. Backed by Discover Kalamazoo and featuring several sponsors, the tour will open the eyes of visitors, or locals for that matter, to one of the finest beer-cation locations in the country.

Each tour will be different, so check the schedule to see which itineraries best fit your taste buds.

Registration for each tour starts at 12:30 p.m. and departs for a trio of breweries at 1 p.m. The tour concludes at 4:30 p.m. And again, the $19 includes a pint or samples at each stop.

West Michigan Beer Tours is also proud to collaborate with Greenleaf Hospitality Group to offer discounted hotel stays at either the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites in downtown Kalamazoo or the Holiday Inn West and Kalamazoo House for unique bed & breakfast option.
